Tsikhanouskaya: The death penalty has no place and cannot have a place in a legal and democratic state
From October 5 to 10, the human rights center "Viasna" is holding the Week Against the Death Penalty. Democratic leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya expressed her position on the issue of the death penalty, which is applied in Belarus.
"Human life is the highest value. The death penalty has no place and cannot have a place in a legal and democratic state," — stated Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
"The Week Against the Death Penalty is an occasion to reiterate what kind of Belarus we want to see: a country where human destiny and the right to life are protected by law. I am grateful to the human rights defenders of "Viasna" who have consistently fought for many years to abolish the death penalty in Belarus and do not allow this topic to disappear from public attention," — she noted.
