More than half of the cars that burned in Belarus this year did not have a valid technical inspection
More than half of the vehicles that burned in Belarus during the first eight months of 2026 did not have a valid permit for road traffic participation. This was reported by the republican unitary service enterprise "Beltekhosmotr".

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 559 transport fires occurred in Belarus from January to August. Compared to the same period in 2025, their number increased by 14.5% — from 488 to 559. The largest increase in the number of fires was recorded in the Brest region — by 35%, and in Minsk — by 30%.
Most of the fires involved passenger cars. In eight months, 440 passenger cars caught fire, or 78.7% of the total number of transport fires. Among them were two electric vehicles.
Beltekhosmotr noted that the main cause of fires is the emergency operation of electrical equipment. For this reason, 434 fires occurred during the specified period, accounting for 77.6% of their total number.
The analysis conducted showed that more than half of the vehicles damaged by fire did not have a valid permit for road traffic participation. In Minsk, this figure was 58%, and in the Brest region — 52%. Many of these cars had never even been submitted for state technical inspection.
For comparison, in September 2026 alone, the diagnostic stations of "Beltekhosmotr" issued 144,044 permits for vehicles to participate in road traffic.
