In Minsk, 17-year-old history Olympian accused of rehabilitating Nazism
The young man is being held in custody. His good academic performance and participation in olympiads were cited by the investigation as an argument for the prosecution.
According to the Investigative Committee (SK), for two years the teenager administered a publicly accessible Telegram channel. The investigation found more than 40 publications there which, according to the SK's assessment, justified fascist ideology, glorified supporters of the Third Reich, and denied the crimes of the Hitler regime.
The SK also claims that the young man disseminated materials that incited national hatred and accompanied them with Nazi symbols.
Separately, the investigation noted that the accused studied well and participated in subject olympiads, including in history. In the opinion of the SK, this indicates his awareness of the content of the publications.
“The young man possessed a sufficient amount of knowledge, fully understood the nature and scale of the crimes committed by the Nazis in the occupied territories, as well as the inhumane essence of Nazi ideology,” the department stated.
The Minsk resident is accused under Part 1 of Article 130-1 of the Criminal Code — rehabilitation of Nazism. According to the report, he fully admitted guilt and remains in custody.
