On June 16, the EU may officially launch the first stage of negotiations on Ukraine's accession.
The European Commission determined the schedule and plans to propose the opening of the first negotiation cluster on June 16 at a meeting of European ministers in Brussels.
This refers to the launch of the most important block, which concerns fundamental democratic, economic, and institutional reforms. The remaining negotiation areas for Ukraine and Moldova are expected to be launched already in July. It is expected that the remaining negotiation clusters for Ukraine and Moldova will open in July.
Previously, Viktor Orban had blocked this process for years. However, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has taken a more flexible stance. Budapest is now ready for compromises in exchange for unblocking frozen European funds.
For the approval of each stage, unanimous support from all 27 member states of the union is required. Meanwhile, Kyiv has already stated that it is technically ready for the work and counts only on full membership, rejecting any hybrid formats and alternative integration models.
