Slovenian President suspected of ties with Russian intelligence

Slovenia's parliamentary committee on security issues has demanded urgent information from the SOVA intelligence service regarding possible ties between the country's president, Nataša Pirc Musar, and Russian special services. A meeting with intelligence representatives is planned for next week, The Moscow Times reports.

The reason for the check was publications about the president's long-time friend Viktoriya Krivalutskaya — a Slovenian citizen of Russian origin. As it turned out, she previously had a romantic relationship with Roman Jeglič, a former Slovenian intelligence officer who defected to Russia in the mid-1990s.

Žan Mahnič, a member of parliament from the ruling center-right Slovenian Democratic Party, urged the government to stop providing Pirc Musar with intelligence information and materials related to security issues. He stated that he fears possible ties between the president and a Russian spy network.

Pirc Musar's office categorically rejected suspicions of her ties with Russian special services.

Interest in this story arose after an accident involving the president's car. In late July, Pirc Musar was hospitalized with a fractured collarbone. Krivalutskaya was also in the car at the time of the accident.

Slovenian media previously reported on Krivalutskaya's close ties with Roman Jeglič. She confirmed that they were in a romantic relationship and lived together in Russia for several years. According to her, she has not maintained contact with the former intelligence officer for more than 15 years.
