The Trump administration plans to revoke about 200,000 tourist visas from those who entered the country on them and applied for asylum, AP writes.

In the coming weeks, the U.S. State Department will announce the cancellation of B1 and B2 (business and tourist) visas held by those who have requested asylum, writes the Associated Press agency, which has reviewed the department's documents.

This refers to visas issued from 2016 to 2026. The Trump administration plans to revoke the visas in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security.

According to a State Department spokesperson, this is necessary to "identify and revoke non-immigrant visas of foreign nationals who arrive in the U.S. asserting they are short-term visitors and then apply for asylum to stay here permanently."

According to officials, the revocation of visas will not necessarily lead to immediate deportation. Most of those whose asylum cases are currently pending will be reclassified.
