In early 2027, the German military intends to conduct technical tests of the missiles. If successful, Germany could order several hundred units. According to the Financial Times, this will be Germany's first known purchase of offensive weaponry developed in Ukraine.

The development of "Bars" began in 2023. Formally, its production is classified as an unmanned aerial vehicle, but its creators call it a cruise missile. According to their data, its flight range reaches 1000 kilometers, its speed exceeds 700 kilometers per hour, and its warhead mass is almost 60 kilograms.

Artificial intelligence technologies, including machine vision for target acquisition, are used in its development and production.

"Bars" is also used to intercept Russian air targets. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the effectiveness of such interceptions is about 30%.

As a Ukrainian source told the BBC, the missile is being developed by a private company that recently established a joint venture in Germany. It operates within the framework of the "Build with Ukraine" program, financed by Berlin.

Initially, the program envisaged the production of Ukrainian weaponry outside the country to expand production capacities and reduce the risk of Russian strikes. In the future, it should also provide Ukrainian manufacturers access to NATO country markets.

The first batch of missiles produced by the joint venture arrived in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in October 2026. Earlier, Zelenskyy announced plans to receive 2000 such missiles.
