Europe is ready to pass Belarus to Moscow.
Belarusian authorities are not ready for the dialogue with the EU, says Poland ambassador to Belarus Leszek Sherepka.
“The preconditions for the dialogue have not changed: all political prisoners must be released and exonerated. Furthermore, we want to have guarantees that they will not be imprisoned again in a month after the political situation changes.
“The most vital point in talks with Belarus is the matter of political values. We are eager to cooperate in any sphere, but we have to be equal parties, we have to be of the same values. If we are, there are no obstacles to arise.
“However, Belarusian authorities are not ready for this. There are no significant changes,” said Mr. Sherepka.
“I wouldn’t like to count political prisoners in Belarus. I wouldn’t like political prisoners to simply exist in your country. And I would like to have guarantees it won’t repeat.
“We voiced it not once, we made cooperation attempts, but then recurrence came again. The problem lurks here.”
Leszek Sherepka has also commented on the efficiency of economic sanctions.
“There are countries dependent on Belarus. Baltic region states receive high revenues from transit. Everything is very controversial. Many are sure sanctions do not work completely. Look at Cuba: it is isolated, but it develops itself somehow. I think the EU’s firm attitudes towards the regime are a success,”he said.
The ambassador also touched upon the role of Moscow.
“There are parties in Europe who consider cooperation with Moscow more efficient than wasting time with Minsk or Kiev.
“Official Minsk is tiresome. Some Western politicians would be glad if Belarus issues could be solved through Moscow.”
