Foreign Suppliers Bribed Top Managers of BelAZ, MTZ, and Atlant for 10 Years

A corruption scheme has been uncovered in Belarus, in which representatives of a group of foreign companies bribed heads of industrial enterprises for ten years. In exchange for bribes, these officials selected the companies as suppliers of industrial equipment and spare parts.

As reported on October 20 by Andrei Fiedarovichau, a senior prosecutor at the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus, 21 officials have been brought to criminal liability. Among them are top managers of BelAZ, MTZ, Atlant, Gomselmash, and a number of other enterprises.

According to Fiedarovichau, this year 607 individuals, including four who held senior positions, were brought to criminal liability for corruption-related crimes. General directors of Kommunarka, the Belarusian Cement Plant, the Grodno Meat Processing Plant, and other high-ranking officials were convicted of bribery.

According to statistics cited by the prosecutor, one in five corruption crimes in Belarus is committed by the head of a state body or state organization.

In 2026, prosecutors initiated 236 criminal cases related to corruption. Most of them involved bribery during procurement or other lobbying of commercial organizations' interests.

Specifically, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a bribery scheme involving approximately 50 officials from enterprises in industry, agriculture, housing and communal services, construction, and transport was uncovered. The scheme operated during the supply of electrical equipment, which was sold through a chain of economic entities controlled by the briber to artificially inflate its cost.

The bribes amounted to up to 10% of the cost of the purchased equipment. In individual cases, payments reached 190,000 Belarusian rubles, equivalent to approximately $63,400. The total sum of bribes in this scheme amounted to 750,000 rubles – about $250,400.
