Slovakia and Hungary refused to finance new EU loan to Ukraine for 2027
Amid significant war expenditures, Ukraine is asking the European Union for a new loan of €70 billion. Slovakia and Hungary have stated that they will not participate in its financing, RBC-Ukraine reports .

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico also commented on negotiations regarding the long-term EU budget for 2028-2034. According to him, member states are still far from agreeing on a common position.
Fico believes that reaching an agreement by the end of the year will be difficult. This is the timeframe European Council President António Costa is counting on.
At the same time, the Slovak prime minister called linking negotiations on the future EU budget with funding for Ukraine "dangerous."
According to him, Slovakia is ready to support Ukraine in other ways. Among the possible directions, he named projects in education, road infrastructure, and the development of energy connections.
Fico also criticized what he believes was insufficient attention given to peace initiatives and ending the war between Russia and Ukraine during the summit in Brussels.
During the summit in Brussels, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the war would cost the country €155 billion next year. He urged the presidents and prime ministers of EU countries to find the necessary funds for further support for Ukraine.
