A house built for the wardens of Valadarka prison has been restored in the center of Minsk
A major renovation has been completed on a house at Valadarski Street, 4, in the center of Minsk, which was built in 1904 for the employees of the nearby prison. The building is being prepared for commissioning, writes Blizko.by.
During the renovation, the building reportedly had its historical appearance restored. Elements that did not correspond to the original look, including the canopy and air conditioners, were dismantled from the facade. A new balcony was made in place of the old one, stucco molding was restored, as were the decorative pulls between the first and second floors, and damaged sections of plaster. In addition, a modern standing seam roof with a new rafter system was installed in the house.
Builders also replaced the thermal unit equipment, engineering communications in the underfloor channels, gas supply networks, electrical panels, and windows in common areas. New water supply and sewerage pipes were laid in the apartments.
Since the building has the status of a historical and cultural value, all work was carried out under scientific supervision.
The house on Valadarski Street was erected at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries for employees of the neighboring prison. On the first floor, there was a four-room apartment for the head of the institution, Iosif Adolfovich Volyan, and three five-room apartments. One of them was occupied by his assistant.
On the second floor, there were two two-room apartments: one was occupied by the assistant head of the prison, the other by a prison warden. Also located there were a five-room apartment for the assistant registrar of the prison inspection, an apartment for a prison official, and a three-room apartment for the assistant head of the prison.
