Musicians Relikt and Uladź Liankievič Released the Album Filamaty About a Secret 19th-Century Student Society
Here, friendship becomes the main thread that holds people together.
The musical and poetic project Filamaty released an eponymous album, in which a two-hundred-year-old history resembles today's.
Behind the project are poet and musician Uladź Liankievič, known for Syndrom Samazvanca and TonqiXod, as well as Relikt musicians Aleś Dziamidzienka, Zmicier Narkievič, and Vital Makšun. The concert premiere of Filamaty took place back in 2024 at the "Vershy na Asfalcie" (Poems on Asphalt) festival. Now this story has received an album with seven compositions. The songs resemble rock ballads with clear guitar parts and stories you want to listen to until the end.
The first singles from Filamaty were «Pacierki», released in February 2026, and in June the musicians presented «Kraj».
The name Filamaty refers to the Philomaths — members of a secret society that emerged at Vilnius University in 1817. Among them were Adam Mickiewicz, Jan Czeczot, and Tomasz Zan. The young people were united by education, creativity, and the desire for social change. In 1823, the persecution and disbandment of the group began, and its members faced exile.
But it's not necessary to know the entire history of the society to understand what the musicians are singing about. Here, friendship becomes the main thread that holds people together and is a sign of honor and beauty: «Shoulder to shoulder, our society hung on the neck of life, like beads». This is a symbol of an unbreakable bond: as long as the thread is intact, the beads (people) stay together.
Then the thread breaks: «The beads broke, scattered across the world». In the song «Pacierki», there are cells, forced changes, and an attempt to maintain connection after the former life fell apart. For a Belarusian listener today, such a story can sound very familiar.
In «Pišaš-čakaješ» this theme continues through interrogation, a note passed through the guard, and waiting for news from afar. And «Kraj» offers a riddle: the hero has many names, endures blows, and disappears, leaving a cloak on the riverbank. Who do you recognize in him?..
