Decisive Day of Midterm Elections for Congress Begins in the USA. Over 50 Million Voters Have Already Cast Their Ballots
Americans are electing the entire House of Representatives (435 congressmen), as well as 35 out of 100 senators. Additionally, voters are casting ballots for representatives of local authorities.

In many states, elections are being held for governors, attorneys general, state legislative bodies, and local officials, Radio Svoboda reports.
The first polling stations on the east coast of the USA will open at 1:00 PM Minsk time (5:00 AM local time) in the northern state of Vermont. An hour later, voters will go to the polls in New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, and Kentucky.
The first polling stations will begin to close at 6:00 PM local time (2:00 AM November 4 Minsk time) in the states of Indiana and Kentucky.
In total, over 210 million voters are registered in the USA. Over 50 million of them have already voted early. This option is available in 47 states and the District of Columbia. They can cast their votes at special polling stations or by mail.
American military personnel and citizens living abroad also sent their ballots in advance. For example, Pope Leo XIV, who is a US citizen and named Robert Francis Prevost, voted this way. He is registered as a voter in the town of New Lenox (Illinois, near Chicago), where he was born and raised.
Currently, the Republican Party holds a majority in both chambers of Congress: 53 out of 100 seats in the Senate and 218 out of 435 seats in the House of Representatives.
Poll results published on the eve of the vote indicate that Democrats are almost certain to gain a majority in the House of Representatives and with high probability — in the Senate.
On Sunday, November 1, US President Donald Trump, representing the Republican Party, stated that in the event of a Democratic victory, he would become "Mr. Veto." He also said that constant vetoes could force Democratic congressmen to "reach an agreement" with the president.
The House of Representatives plays an important role in approving the budget and initiating impeachment, while the Senate confirms nominations for key government positions, including judges, and ratifies international treaties.
The first results are expected after the closing of polling stations on the evening of November 3. The final distribution of seats in Congress may not be known immediately, as different ballot counting rules apply in various states.
According to US government data, approximately 46% of voters participated in the 2022 midterm elections.
