Fan boycott and sensational outsiders. What to expect in the third round of the Belarusian football championship

While the Football Federation sees no reason to suspend the championship, fans of almost all top league clubs refuse active support at stadiums. Their opinion is supported by some footballers and even Neman's coach Ihar Kavalevich. But at least the matches of the third round will take place; further, ABFF will act depending on the situation.

Together with Bookmaker Leon, we will tell you about all the interesting things in today's best football championship in Europe.

The second round gave us more predictable outcomes than the opening one, but even here, there were sensations. If you look at the interim table, at the very bottom, you will find BATE and Dinamo Minsk in the company of Belshina and Gorodeya. The Belarusian football giants started the tournament with two defeats, and the Minsk team, including cup matches, have lost all four official games this season.

The first place is shared by the daring underdogs from Minsk and Energetik-BGU. And also Torpedo-BelAZ and Isloch, who both secured two minimal victories.

Here are the results of the second round matches:

  • Torpedo-BelAZ — Belshina 1:0 (50, Harbachyk)
  • Rukh — Energetik-BGU 0:1 (43, Miroshnikov)
  • Slutsk — Dinamo-Brest 0:1 (18, Milevskiy)
  • Slavia — BATE 2:1 (32, 38, Melnikov — 10, Viljúmsson)
  • Minsk — Dinamo-Minsk 3:2 (1, Khvashchynski; 41, Chahavets; 45, Hrybowski — 77, Shykaŭka (p); 80, Bakhar)
  • Gorodeya — Shakhtyor 0:2 (56, Diasamidze; 89, Padstrelaŭ)
  • Isloch — Smolevichi 1:0 (9, Jansane)
  • Neman — Vitebsk 2:0 (51, Kadyamyen; 58, Kantaria (p))

Now, let's move on to the preview of the third round matches.

Belshina — Gorodeya

Both teams predictably started the season poorly. For Gorodeya, a slow start is common, and the Babruysk team simply confirmed their underdog status.

Now there's a chance to earn the first tournament points. But don't expect a fiery game: together, the teams have only scored one goal.

NN's Prediction: Gorodeya will not lose. Total goals, under 2.5.

Dinamo-Minsk — Torpedo-BelAZ

Despite the teams being at different poles of the table, Dinamo remains the favorite for the game. But it's worth noting that the Minsk team has not only failed to win against Torpedo for two years but also hasn't even scored against them.

The Zhodino team, even if on the third attempt, finally managed to take a scalp from Shakhtyor. Will Dinamo become another victim of Yury Puntus's tactics?

NN's Prediction: Torpedo will not concede.

Shakhtyor — Neman

After disappointing defeats in the first round, the Salihorsk and Hrodna teams secured confident victories. Now the teams face each other, but without the support of the boycotting fans.

Shakhtyor looks like the clear favorite for the game, both on paper and according to bookmakers' odds. So far, we haven't seen the true strength of Vernydub's team. Can Neman do anything about it?

NN's Prediction: Shakhtyor will win.

BATE — Rukh

We predicted that stability would help BATE have a consistent season, but it turned out that the Barysow team became hostages of their monotonous play. And the defense isn't holding up either — currently, the Barysow team has conceded more than anyone else.

As for Rukh, it's difficult to draw conclusions after two matches. The Brest team won against a stronger opponent and lost to a comparable one. How will Syadniow's team surprise the former hegemon?

NN's Prediction: We predict BATE's first victory, but the yellow-blues are unlikely to score many goals.

Dinamo-Brest — Slavia

The Brest team visited Slutsk in the last round and managed to secure their first victory thanks to a goal from Artem Milevskiy. But Dinamo had a very tough time fighting Slutsk: in the second half, Slutsk had many opportunities to equalize and even take the lead, but the players' skill let them down.

After defeating BATE, Slavia is preparing for a match against the champion, and it's clear that it won't be easy for the Brest team.

NN's Prediction: Dinamo will win, both teams will score.

Energetik-BGU — Minsk

Could anyone have imagined that a match with the billing "Energetik" — "Minsk" would ever be a match between the league leaders?

Last year, both Minsk team derbies were very heated: in May, the game ended 3:3, and in autumn, Energetik thrashed Minsk 6:1, with Ilya Shkurin scoring four goals.

We expect a similarly high-scoring game on Sunday.

NN's Prediction: Total goals, over 2.5.

Vitebsk — Smolevichi

Vitebsk is currently the second hot spot for coronavirus spread after Minsk. Logically, there was talk of moving the game to another city. But the match will proceed as planned.

Smolevichi lost to Isloch despite having many opportunities. But the class of the team, which Brazhevich's team lacks, played a role. However, Smolevichi will be interesting to watch further on.

NN's Prediction: Total goals, over 2.5.

Isloch — Slutsk

And for dessert, a meeting of the two most media-hyped teams in the championship. The famous accordionist-fan of the "wolves," Valery Kalantay, even recorded a music video message to the coronavirus.

The international fan community of Slutsk on Facebook already has over 2500 members. The club launched a fundraiser so that those willing around the world could help the club in a difficult situation.

As for the game, Slutsk has exclusively beaten Isloch away in the last three seasons. It will be interesting to see if the trend continues.

NN's Prediction: Total goals, under 2.5.

Due to the spread of the coronavirus, we do not advise you to attend crowded events, including football matches. If you still decide to go to the stadium, follow safety precautions.
