«Hamnet» is a drama directed by Chloé Zhao, based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel of the same name. It is a fictionalized story of the life of William Shakespeare's son, Hamnet, who died at the age of 11.

Awards for Best Actor and Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy went to Timothée Chalamet for his role as a professional table tennis player in «Marty the Marvelous» and Rose Byrne for «I'd Kick You If I Could.»
The award for Best Supporting Actress went to Teyana Taylor for her role as a revolutionary and mother in «One Battle After Another,» while 74-year-old Skarsgård, star of the Norwegian family drama «Sentimental Value,» was awarded for Best Supporting Actor.
The animated film «K-pop Demon Hunters,» released on Netflix, was named Best Animated Feature Film.
The American medical drama TV series «Pitt Hospital» was recognized as Best Drama Series. The comedy or musical series was «The Film Studio,» released on Apple TV+, which won 13 Emmy Awards last year.
The award for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series went to Noah Wyle (The Pitt), while the Best Actress award was won by Rhea Seehorn (Pluribus).
Best Foreign Language Film — the Brazilian political thriller «Secret Agent.»
Who Was Nominated
Paul Thomas Anderson's dark comedy «One Battle After Another» received the most nominations this year — nine. It was also nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
The film, starring DiCaprio with supporting roles by Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro, tells the story of an alcoholic revolutionary who throws himself back into battle when his daughter is persecuted by a corrupt police officer. «One Battle After Another» was one of the major cinematic events of last year and received positive reviews from critics.
Also named among the favorites were Ryan Coogler's horror film «Sinners» (seven nominations), and Joachim Trier's Norwegian film «Sentimental Value» (eight nominations), which tells the story of two sisters reuniting with their filmmaker father.
«Hamnet,» which won the main prize, had six nominations. Another favorite (five nominations) was Guillermo del Toro's «Frankenstein,» a new adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel.
Among series, «The White Lotus» led with six nominations, while the British Netflix series «Transitional Age» garnered five, including a nomination for 15-year-old Owen Cooper for «Best Supporting Actor» in television. In September, he became the youngest Emmy winner.
This year, a new nomination appeared for the first time on the list of nominations — for Best Podcast. Actress Amy Poehler and her podcast «Good Hang» won it.
«It's an attempt to infuse a very harsh and unkind world with a little more love and laughter, to laugh with people rather than at them,» Poehler said at the awards ceremony in Beverly Hills.
There were other contenders for the Golden Globe for Film of the Year.
The kidnapping drama «Just a Coincidence,» winner of the main prize at the Cannes Film Festival, tells the story of a man who takes revenge on a former officer who previously tortured him in prison.
The film «Marty the Marvelous» is about a New York tennis player in the 1950s who tries to stay afloat while succeeding in sports. The main roles were played by Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Other nominated films included the black comedy about conspiracy theories «Bugonia,» the Korean comedy «Method of Elimination,» the Brazilian «Secret Agent,» and «K-pop Demon Hunters.»
Box office leaders Timothée Chalamet («Marty the Marvelous») and Leonardo DiCaprio («One Battle After Another») competed for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. Chalamet eventually surpassed not only DiCaprio but also George Clooney. This is his first Golden Globe win.
In the «Best Actor in a Drama Series» category, Michael B. Jordan («Sinners») was highly rated, but given the international slant of the Golden Globes in recent years, Cannes Festival winner Wagner Moura («Secret Agent») was also considered a strong contender.
In the «Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy» category, seasoned professionals were considered favorites — Rose Byrne («I'd Kick You If I Could»), Kate Hudson («The Song Sounds Sad»), and Chase Infinity («One Battle After Another»).
In the «Best Actress in a Drama Series» category, Jessie Buckley was predicted to win for «Hamnet,» and she did.
Two special lifetime achievement awards are usually presented on the day of the ceremony, but this year they were awarded early.
«Sex and the City» star Sarah Jessica Parker received the Carol Burnett Award for outstanding contributions to television, while Helen Mirren received a similar award for cinematic achievement — the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
A win by an actor or film at the Golden Globes does not guarantee an automatic win at the Oscars but can increase the chances of a nomination.
As one of the first ceremonies in awards season, the Golden Globes can significantly boost momentum, as a win or a well-received acceptance speech will encourage more Academy members who award the Oscars to watch a particular film.
Stars like Sebastian Stan, Demi Moore, and Fernando Torres received Oscar nominations after winning Golden Globes last January. The films «The Flow» and «I'm Still Here» also first won Golden Globes and then received Oscars in the «Animated Feature Film» and «International Feature Film» categories, respectively.
The Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 15, with nominations announced on January 22.
