First textile waste collection containers appear in Minsk. New ones to be added weekly
The first containers for collecting textile waste appeared in Minsk this week. By the end of 2026, Remondis Minsk plans to install 50 such containers in the capital, and by 2027, they will appear in all districts of the city. This was announced on October 22 by the company's CEO, Erwin Kurtbedinov, writes the Minsk-News agency.

By the end of the year, containers will be placed in the Maskouski, Frunzenski, and Kastrychnitski districts. They will be installed in high-traffic areas, but separate from household waste collection points, to prevent textiles from mixing with regular garbage.
Various textile products can be deposited in the containers: clothing, towels, blankets, bedding, and also footwear.
Textiles will be collected by separate vehicles, not garbage trucks. Afterwards, they will be delivered to a special sorting line where fabrics will be separated by type and fiber composition. Items unsuitable for reuse are planned to be processed into high-quality wiping rags. The remaining material will be used for RDF fuel production.
According to Erwin Kurtbedinov, this will allow for the collection and processing of textiles with virtually no waste.
Currently, containers have already been installed at four addresses in Minsk: Kosmonavtov Street, 33; Lidskaya Street, 14; Kuntsevshchina Street, 17; Pritytskogo Street, 156. The company plans to increase their number weekly.
New containers can be distinguished by their design, the main element of which is a four-hole button.
For donated items to be reusable or recyclable, they must be clean and dry. Before placing them in the container, textiles should be packed in a plastic bag. Footwear must be packed separately. This will help protect the items from contamination during transport.
