Belarusian scientists have bred a plum — they say there are no analogues in the world
Belarusian breeders have developed a new variety called 'Buzha'. Large plums ripen exceptionally early — by approximately July 25th — 8-15 days earlier than early varieties already included in the state register. It yields large fruits and tolerates winter temperature fluctuations well.

Marina Vasilieva, a breeder, told 'SB' about 'Buzha'. The variety was obtained by crossing 'Kubanskaya Rannyaya' with the Belarusian 'Volat'. The goal was to combine early ripening with large fruits and good yield.
According to the breeder, the average fruit mass of 'Buzha' is no less than 60 grams, but plums are often larger. The pulp is dense, so the fruits tolerate transportation better.
During trials, 'Buzha' was compared with the Belarusian variety 'Dalikatnaya', which is similar in ripening time. The new plum yielded larger and less acidic fruits, which received higher ratings during tasting. The yield was 22.3 tons per hectare — approximately three tons more than 'Dalikatnaya'.
Another advantage is its resistance to fruit rot. In years of its widespread occurrence, 'Buzha' suffered less than the variety it was compared with.
For Belarusian gardens, the ability to survive winter is also important. Not only severe frost is dangerous: after a prolonged thaw, the tree may start to awaken, and a subsequent cold snap can damage it. In trials, 'Buzha' showed good resistance to such fluctuations, including frost down to minus 30 after a thaw.
For pollination, it needs another variety of domestic plum nearby — for example, the same 'Volat'.
