School roof collapses in Pakistan, killing at least 27 students and a teacher
Another 19 people were injured.

In Peshawar, Pakistan, a school roof collapsed on Thursday, killing at least 28 people. As reported by the BBC, Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar spokesperson Muhammad Asim stated that among the deceased are 27 students and one teacher.
According to Asim, another 19 people were injured, five of whom are in critical condition. All the deceased and injured children are between six and 12 years old, with most suffering head injuries.
Rescuers believe that more children may still be under the rubble. According to Peshawar police chief Mian Said, there were 110 students in the school.
The disaster occurred at the private school "Al-Khair Educational Center" in northern Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
A rescue service representative told journalists that the roof above the third floor of the school collapsed. It fell onto the slab between the third and second floors, and they both collapsed onto the students in the classrooms.
The causes of the collapse have not yet been officially established, but police chief Said told journalists that, according to his information, the cause was the unstable structure of the building.
"It is a weak structure. The roof was too heavy and rested on a weak structure, which led to the collapse," Reuters quoted Said as saying.
The office of the country's president, Asif Ali Zardari, stated on the social network X that this tragedy has shaken the entire country and that the president also sincerely condoles with the families of the deceased children.
