Japanese writer Ryu Murakami died on October 17 at the age of 74.

Ryunosuke (Ryu) Murakami was born on February 19, 1952, into a family of artists.

In 1976, he debuted with the novel "Almost Transparent Blue," which describes the daily life of marginalized teenagers, full of sex and drugs. The novel became a sensation: its circulation exceeded one million copies, and the young author, who had not yet finished his university studies, became a laureate of the Akutagawa Prize.

He is also known for the novels "Coin Locker Babies" and "In the Miso Soup." He directed several films.

By the way, "Almost Transparent Blue" and "Coin Locker Babies" are banned in Belarus.

Some critics valued Ryu Murakami's work more highly than the talent of another writer — Haruki Murakami.
